In a way, a dog pen can have the same function as a children’s playpen: it is a safe place in which you can leave your furry friend when he’s new to your home, so that he can slowly find his own dimension in the new environment. At the same time, this space is his lair, where he can bark, play and sleep, especially when nobody is available to look after him and where he will never be disturbed. Try to encourage him to enter it by using snacks: at the beginning, when he’s inside, don’t close the door and let him go in and out autonomously, until he gradually feels safe inside it, even with the door closed. In the initial period, try to spend a lot of time with him.
It is a very useful pen for teaching your puppy to recognise the areas in which he is allowed to do his “business” and where it is forbidden, and for getting him accustomed to controlling himself and only doing it when he is out of the house.
