CHART OF DOGS WITH LONGER LIFE EXPECTANCY

Anyone who is ready to adopt a puppy also hopes to live with him for as long as possible. If you are wondering if there are more long-lived breeds than others, the answer is yes: but which are the dogs that live longer?

Factors that extend the life of the dog

In principle, there are several factors that positively affect the lifespan of the darling. A dog that receives pampering and attention, who follows a balanced diet, does daily exercises and is constantly stimulated with games of mental activation and above all is periodically checked by the veterinarian, certainly has a longer life expectancy. However, race and genetics also play a crucial role in this regard.

Ranking of the longest-lived dog breeds

According to the studies conducted by Professor Selman of the University of Glasgow, the larger the dog, the faster it will age, so it will have a shorter life span, on average 9-11 years. Small dogs can live from 15 to 18 years; medium-sized dogs, on the other hand, live at most 13 or 14 years.

Mixed breed dogs deserve a separate study, however, it is true that these crossbreeds are actually very long lasting and have an average life of between 16 and 18 years, although some specimens reach 20 years. It should be stressed that for them too much depends on the environmental factors in which they grow.

1. CHIHUAHUA

Chihuhua takes the top step of the podium in the ranking of dogs that live the longest. This small and talkative furry has a life expectancy that is around 15-18 years, but if treated with care he can easily reach 20 years. As the saying goes, in the small barrel there is good wine!

2. DACHSHUND

Also in this case the small stature is a guarantee of longevity. The Dachshund is an intelligent, playful, witty and very loyal dog and can stay with his human friend for a long time, in fact he can blow out the 17 candles with you too! The only negative point is that he can suffer from spinal problems due to its physical conformation.

3. SHIBA INU

The first medium-sized dog to be included in our ranking is the Shiba Inu, a breed originally from Japan … It cannot be a coincidence that the Japanese are the population with the highest life expectancy in the world! With due care, this splendid specimen can live up to 16 years.

4. VOLPINO DI POMERANIA

The Pomeranian Volpino has a life expectancy of between 12 and 15 years. Behind its sweet and almost fragile appearance lies a dog full of determination and eager for adventures: he never lets himself be discouraged and faces life without fear … but always with the right dose of cuddles!

5. BORDER COLLIE

The Border Collie is one of the most sensitive and intelligent dogs in the world,  with an  excellent health and enviable physical endurance, which is why he can live very long, on average between 13 and 17 years. However, he has a predisposition to develop hip dysplasia and epilepsy, so they should always be kept under control.

We all want our dogs to live longer, to spend as much time with them as possible, so remember to give them so much love and all the necessary care!
